Some recent advancements have been made on the Dynamic Physical Rendering concept at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Since 2006, they’ve been researching how microbots can work together to form smart, shape-shifting “material” system. Success at the micro-scale might help inform approaches to nanoscale robotic systems.
