Konarka is working on a new type of technology that might enable windows to generate solar power. Dye molecules in a solar cell absorb light and release electrons that are absorbed by nanoscale titania particles. The nanoparticles are contained between two panes of glass. This concept was invented years ago by Michaël Grätzel, who says, “This could be used as a power-producing window or skylights or building facades. The wall or window itself is photovoltaically active.”
